Invest Cape Town Launches Global Ambassador Network
Invest in Cape Town as the city strengthens its position on the global stage through the launch of the Invest Cape Town Ambassador Programme. Introduced on 27 November 2025 in the City Council Chamber, the initiative marks a strategic step towards expanding Cape Town’s international influence and strengthening investor confidence.
The programme aims to position Cape Town as Africa’s leading destination for business, innovation and opportunity by building a global network of influential advocates with strong personal and professional ties to the city.
A Global Network Rooted in Cape Town
The inaugural cohort consists of 15 Invest Cape Town Ambassadors representing sectors including technology, finance, tourism, manufacturing, diplomacy, arts, major events and social innovation.
Each ambassador has a deep connection to Cape Town through having lived, worked or built part of their career in the city. Their role will be to champion Cape Town internationally, helping to open conversations in boardrooms, conferences and global business networks.
As Alderman James Vos, Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth, explained, the ambassadors bring personal insight and influence that can help extend Cape Town’s reach into new global spaces.
Inspired by International Best Practice
The programme draws inspiration from the Copenhagen Goodwill Ambassador Programme, recognised internationally for its role in strengthening Denmark’s business profile.
Cape Town’s approach follows a similar model by leveraging respected, non-remunerated global professionals who can speak authentically about the city’s strengths. Through these networks, the city aims to highlight its infrastructure, skilled talent base and growing innovation ecosystem to international investors and decision-makers.
A Symbol of Resilience and Opportunity
During the launch, ambassadors received official Invest Cape Town Ambassador pins handcrafted from authentic Robben Island fence wire by Charmaine Taylor of the Legacy Collection.
The pins symbolise resilience, transformation and progress, reflecting Cape Town’s broader story as a city shaped by history while looking firmly towards the future.
Ambassadors also received a detailed guide outlining the city’s economic priorities and key investment sectors, equipping them to represent Cape Town internationally over the next three years.
Positioning Cape Town for Long-Term Growth
As part of the programme, ambassadors will participate in quarterly economic briefings and remain connected to major developments within the city. Their role is voluntary, driven by a shared commitment to Cape Town’s future growth and international standing.
The initiative comes at a time of increasing global competition for investment, talent and innovation. Cape Town is already recognised for its quality of life, business infrastructure and entrepreneurial energy, but the city is now amplifying that message through a coordinated international network.
For those looking to invest in Cape Town, the programme signals a city actively strengthening its global connections and positioning itself as Africa’s premier investment destination.
