Noordhoek

In Cape Town

Country-style charm, outdoor lifestyle and al fresco dining

Just 35 minutes drive from Cape Town city centre, you will find the tranquil, green and lush countryside of Noordhoek. It’s hard to imagine that you are only half an hour’s drive from a major city with beautiful long beaches and farms with horses dotted around every corner. Not only is it beautiful and green but it has a certain charm to it that just can’t be beaten. There is always a lovely country style restaurant to visit, and if you love horses, the rides on Noordhoek beach are famous in Cape Town.

Chapmans Peak Drive starts just above Noordhoek

If Noordhoek being green and beautiful wasn’t enough, it also has the most famous drive in South Africa as its gateway, Chapmans Peak Drive. This beautiful expanse of road sits atop a mountain cliff just metres from the Atlantic Ocean. Be sure to check if the road is open on their website before driving, as there are often rock falls and the road might be closed. No trip to Cape Town is complete, without an instagram post on one of the viewpoints on Chapmans Peak Drive overlooking the cold blue Atlantic Ocean.

A Country-style foodie heaven

The countryside in and around Noordhoek lends itself to a much more relaxed and laid back approach to dining. What comes to mind is warm sunny days, with green grass, live music and good grub. The Noordhoek Farm Village is always on locals lists for a visit. An all time favourite spot is Cafe Roux, often host to amazing local live music and great food. The Noordhoek Farm Village is also home to The Food Barn – famous for its breakfasts and tapas (in the evenings), The Village Sushi, the Toad in the Village, and Kirsten’s Kick-Ass Ice Cream. For wine lovers the Cape Point Vineyards is also a great stop in the area. There is a weekly food market on a Thursday evening from 4:30 – 8:30pm with some outstanding food stalls for a laid back dinner with a view of the sunset.

Noordhoek Beach – Surf, swim & long walks

Noordhoek is known for many things, but mostly loved for its beautiful beach. The long and wide snow white sand with the Atlantic Ocean for a backdrop is truly spectacular. Horse rides and surfing are a daily occurrence and any walking fans can even walk along the beach all the way to Kommetjie, which is about 8km’s. If you happen to run into an old Shipwreck, that’s of an old British steamer called Kakapo. The boat was driven ashore about 120 year ago, and the carcass of times gone by can produce some fantastic pictures with the sunset.
